Who runs the park

Management of Amboseli National Park was handed to the County Government of Kajiado on 10 November 2025.

Information status: Verified

In July 2026 the High Court issued interim orders stopping Kajiado County from taking over the park while a case challenging the transfer is heard, which keeps the park under its existing management.

By air

Heavy rain flooded Amboseli's main airstrip in March 2026 and it was closed. The Kenya Wildlife Service reopened it in May 2026, after a joint assessment found it had recovered.

Information status: Verified

While it was closed, the Kenya Wildlife Service directed flights to Tawi Airstrip, about 5 km from Kimana gate.

Information status: Verified

After heavy rain, check with your airline or lodge that the airstrip and park roads are open.
